Acting couple Alyson Hannigan, the star of "How I Met Your Mother" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and her husband Alexis Denisof—who also starred in vampire-fighting TV shows—listed their 1930s Spanish Revival home in Santa Monica, California, for $5.1 million on Monday.

The five-bedroom home in the North of Montana neighborhood has a gated courtyard, mature gardens and water features. There’s also a chef’s kitchen, a dining room, a master suite with beamed ceilings and a balcony and a swimming pool, according to the listing with Ren Smith of Pacific Union International. The home had previously been available to rent for $17,500 per month, according to reports.

The couple—who purchased the home in 2002 for $1.93 million, records with PropertyShark show—collaborated with designer Kristen Panitch to restore, update and expand the home, according to a representative for Pacific Union International.

"One of the things that is really special about this home and what Alyson and Alexis have done with it, is that there has been an epidemic of developers buying up classic, older homes and tearing them down to build new construction with maximum square footage," said Mr. Smith in an email statement.

"The fact that Alyson and Alexis were able to modernize the home, while preserving its historical significance, makes it a really special and unique property," he said.

Around the same time, they paid $7.95 millionfor a three-acre property in Encino, California, according to reports.

Ms. Hanningan, 43, while best known for her TV work, also appeared in the "American Pie" film series and most recently hosted "Penn & Teller: Fool Us." Mr. Denisof, 51, also starred in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and its spinoff series "Angel." The couple would not comment on the listing, according to a representative for Pacific Union International.
