A historic carriage house in Georgetown, Washington D.C., which was once owned by the great American inventor, Alexander Graham Bell, has come back on the market with a price reduction.

The 2,224-square-foot home now asks $2.295 million, $100,000 less than the seller originally wanted last November, according to listing records.

The sellers, Thomas E. Bryant Jr. and his mother, Lucie Thrasher Bryant, have lived in the cottage for the past 25 years, according to Mr. Bryant, who is co-listing the property with Derry Haws from Long and Foster, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate.

Bell used the carriage house while he fought for patents for his inventions, most famously telephones. Across from the street was his lab, the Volta Laboratory and Bureau, which was renamed the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in 1999.

"That’s why the street the house is on is named Volta Street," Mr. Bryant said.

Mr. Bryant’s father, Thomas E. Bryant, a physician and lawyer who spearheaded the President’s Commission on Mental Health with then-first lady Rosalynn Carter in the late 1970s and later served as president of the Washington-based National Foundation for Mental Health, left the house to his mother, an interior decorator, after they got divorced, according to Mr. Bryant.

His mother, who is now 75, is looking to move to Florida, said Mr. Bryant.

The cottage is configured with three bedrooms, and two-and-a-half bathrooms. The master suite opens up to the backyard. The living room features a fireplace. The long driveway fits three cars, which is rare in the heart of Georgetown, Mr. Bryant said.

"It’s not a big house; the best part of it is the beautiful backyard, and location is terrific," he added. It is easily accessible to public transportation, shops, restaurants and parks.
