Location: Battersea, London Price: £12 million (about $17.45 million)

London is home to many modern apartments with views of the River Thames – both sides of the water are lined with high-rise residential blocks, in fact. Few, however, can boast the square footage of this property.

This apartment near Battersea Bridge has 6,000 square feet of living space spread across a single floor. That’s almost half the size of an Olympic swimming pool.  The architects created this supersized lateral home by merging four flats into one.

Situated on the seventh floor of Albion Riverside, a curved glass-and-steel block designed by Foster + Partners, it is the “biggest apartment in the building,” according to listing agent Kris Ericsson of Knight Frank.  The property boasts a spectacular open-plan living space with floor-to-ceiling windows.

The interior is certainly impressive – the owner has used it to display his collection of artwork – but potential buyers may be more swayed by what’s outside the home. The apartment has “panoramic views of the river and London’s skyline,” Ericsson says. The views “stretch for miles from Fulham and Chelsea in the west across to Covent Garden and parts of the city. It has also a great almost side-on view of Albert Bridge, which lights up at night.”

The Stats

The home has six bedrooms, six en-suite bathrooms, a kitchen, a media room and a 71-foot x 32-foot open-plan living space that opens to a large wraparound riverfront balcony. There’s also a self-contained guest flat with its own entrance and staff quarters with two bedrooms and a bathroom.

Amenities

The home has been installed with the latest technology – there is a Crestron lighting system and an acclimatized wine cellar. As you might expect from a high-end contemporary residential block, it has a 24-hour lifestyle concierge, a swimming pool with gym facilities and parking spaces (this home comes with four).

Neighborhood Notes

Chelsea’s King’s Road and Sloane Square are a short walk away via the Battersea Bridge, which is right next to Albion Riverside. There are shops and restaurants closer to home in the Battersea Park area.

Design Pedigree

With its semi-circular structure and wavy façade facing the river, Albion Riverside is considered a landmark building. Sir Norman Foster – the architect who designed the building – was rumored to have bought a flat at the development when it was first built 10 years ago.
