A dramatic Scottish highland castle on the picturesque shores of Ardnamurchan Peninsula has been listed for £3.75 million (US$4.9 million).

The baronial mansion is located in Glenborrodale, in the west of Scotland. The property, which hit the market last Wednesday, includes grounds of around 133-acres and comes with its own island, the Isle of Risga, according to the listing.

Glenborrodale Castle has 16 bedrooms and is well suited for watersport enthusiasts; kayaking, whale watching and sailing are just some of the outdoor activities that one can enjoy at this property.

The Ardnamurchan estate, which includes the castle, boasts notable previous owners like Charles Dunell Rudd, a diamond magnate from South Africa; Sir Kenneth Clarke, of Paisley thread manufacturing family; and Lord Trent, of Boots Chemist Company, according to The Historic Environment Scotland portal, the government’s search engine for property history.

The castle was built by Rudd in 1900. The site is named after Borrodale, a nomadic Viking who settled in the area with his tribe, according to the castle’s official site. The property took about three years and the work of about 100 local men to build.

Local legend says Rudd, a diamond magnate, buried a large diamond somewhere on Glenborrodale’s grounds before he passed away, according to the official site. However, no one has been able to find it for over 100 years.

Currently, the property is run as a small hotel and is also used for events. According to the listing agent the current owner is an LLC. "It could equally continue to run as a hotel, a romantic wedding venue or as a private home," said Carl Warden, of Bell Ingram, the listing agent for the property.

Highlights of the interior include stone fireplaces, arched windows and doorways, oak paneling and marble floors, according to the listing. The property also has a gym, gate lodge, guest or staff quarters, industrial grade kitchen appliances, detached coach house, boathouse and a jetty.
