It's unusual to find residential properties off Plaza Catalunya, the famous, buzzing square in central Barcelona where the winding streets of the old city meet the straight modernist boulevards of the Eixample.

So this apartment is "very rare," says agent Gerard Boix, of Barcelona & Costa Brava Sotheby's International Realty. The home is sandwiched between office blocks and shops, offering fabulous views of some of the city’s most famous streets and monuments and out to the sea.

The main balcony looks over the Plaza Catalunya, another slimmer terrace looks west, and because it’s  the penthouse there are no noisy neighbors above.

The living area, measuring about 100 square meters, is an open plan leading to the dining area and fully equipped kitchen with Miele appliances. Upstairs, the master bedroom opens out into the second bedroom and a larger terrace.

Stats

Ideal for a pied a terre, this 260-square-meter (nearly 3,000-square-foot) apartment has three bedrooms and three en-suite bathrooms, plus 48 square meters (nearly 520 square feet) of terrace space.

Design pedigree

The current owner gave his home, a period property first converted into an apartment in 1998,  a full facelift in 2015. The design is clean, modern, and filled with light, with large windows facing in two directions.

Amenities

Above the living area is a mezzanine offering one of the best views over central Barcelona. The master bedroom has its own dressing space, and a Jacuzzi in the bathroom, while what could become a fourth bedroom or further living space is currently a fitness room with its own sauna.

Another unusual benefit for the location is the two parking spaces downstairs in the same building, directly linked to the apartment by a private elevator.

Neighborhood Notes

Passeig de Gràcia—with its Valentino, Prada and Louis Vuitton stores and buildings designed by Gaudi—is the most desirable street in the whole of the city, says Mr. Boix, and leads onto Plaza Catalunya. If you were a resident of this apartment you could walk to it in two minutes. Las Ramblas, with more shops and restaurants is similarly close by.

"When we talk about prime properties in Barcelona, this area is where people want to live," Mr. Boix said. "I have wealthy buyers from Spain and Barcelona who specify they want a place in these areas, with a good view, clean design and parking space. Increasingly international buyers, particularly from Europe, are looking for an apartment in Barcelona for summer weekends."
