Thanks to its amazing scenery and hotel-like amenities, the buyer of this estate on New Zealand's South Island, will likely feel as though they’re on a permanent vacation.

"The farm was purchased back in 1990 by Robert and Sally Hunt who emigrated to New Zealand from California," explained listing agent Rob Wallace of Nelson Premium Property.  "When The Lodge at Paratiho Farm was completed, it became one of only three lodges spread throughout New Zealand that were rated and promoted by the international [high-end hotel chain] Relais & Châteaux."

In 2009, the hotel property was "purchased by the present owners, Sir Keith and Lady Whitson, who immediately shut the lodge business to the public and turned the property into a luxurious private residence with guest suites available for family and friends," Mr. Wallace said.

The future key holders of this sprawling estate will have free reign of 2,000 acres of pristine farmland, a tennis court, a spa, a gymnasium with sauna, four lakes, a croquet lawn, a putting green, a helipad, an outdoor heated swimming pool and nine-hole golf course.

"The nearby streams and rivers have excellent trout fishing opportunities," Mr. Wallace said. Outside its gates, the Tasman District offers one of New Zealand’s sunniest regions, as well as three national parks and a plethora of boutique wineries. In short, there’s no lack of entertainment.

The Stats

The main house features 4,265 square feet of living space. On the ground floor, all the living and dining rooms share space with a full commercial kitchen. Upstairs, a 984-square-foot suite is set up to house the owners. Spread among 2,000 acres of land, there are six standalone, one-bedroom guest suites, each with separate living and bedroom areas and bathroom. In total, there are 14 bedrooms and 14 full bathrooms.

Amenities

This property is a virtual treasure hunt of amenities. Wander along vast manicured lawns and stumble upon a petanque court, a secret garden, and an island that sits in the middle of a flowing river. Wandering freely over rolling hills and bush are nearly 7,500 stock animals: 4,500-some sheep, upwards of 350 cattle, and 180-plus deer.

Talking Points

The estate’s current owners were drawn to the land for its immense farming potential, and have built out the property to house all of the necessary buildings to operate a working farm.

"The stock handling facilities include a three-stand wool shed, a covered sheep yard, and deer shed," Mr. Wallace said. "The cattle yards facilitate ease of handling and there are several sheds and workshops for implement and hay storage. There’s a three-bedroom farm manager’s house, a one-bedroom cottage, and a four-bedroom home, all in good order and located close to the farm buildings."
