Lady Gaga, Patrick Dempsey, Nick Nolte. This isn’t an awards show roster; it’s a roundup of your fellow neighbors if you buy this palatial Malibu home, perched high in the Santa Monica Mountains.

"Celebrities are scattered about in the adjoining neighborhoods," said Michael J. Torrey, owner and developer of the home, adding that the Hollywood elite come to the neighborhood "seeking serenity and privacy amidst the California oaks and sycamore trees."

A sense of peace is readily obtained in this quiet equestrian neighborhood, and floor-to-ceiling windows showcase stellar views from the common quarters. "A floating corner bank of windows open up from the kitchen," explained Mr. Torrey, adding that the reveal creates "an alfresco kitchen and doubles the family room and entertainment area."

Just around the corner from the home, a trailhead leads to more than 500 miles of Santa Monica mountain trails and 26 miles of Malibu’s Pacific coastline.

Mr. Torrey noted that "the property was a vacant lot before, and typically used by the local horseback riders as a place to circle about or take in the view." To pay tribute to the riders that once relied on the land for a moment of calm, Mr. Torrey’s team at local design and build company, Avalon Construction Corp, carved out a space for a coral on the front corner of the property; the perfect spot for riders stopping by for a visit.

The Stats

The 6,404-square-foot home sits on Malibu’s Calpine Drive, just south of the Zuma Ridge trailhead. The house, Mr. Torrey said, "was just completed in January of 2017, and a pool, spa, and patios are underway to expand the outdoor living space." Five bedrooms and seven bathrooms—three full (sink, toilet, shower, and tub), three three-quarters (sink, toilet, and shower), and one half—make up the living quarters. There are two fireplaces, one in the family room, the other in the master bedroom, and the exterior footprint includes a three-car garage.

Amenities

This house is a modern industrial ranch with a linear floorplan and tall ceilings that create dramatic volume in the center of the home. Steel accents are used throughout the property, like the Corten steel entryway door and the two exposed 86-foot steel beams that run through the open plan living space. "This design choice provided an industrial edge to a modern home," explained Mr. Torrey, adding that the choice didn’t compromise any of the home’s warmth allotted by "the use of natural wood veneers—walnut, teak, white oak—and floor-to-ceiling windows connecting all of nature’s elements visually."

Design Pedigree

This listing is a brand-new build, meaning the new owners will be the first and only to call the property home. It is designed and owned by Mr. Torrey, the principal designer and president of Avalon Construction Corp. out of Malibu. "I have a passion for designing and building homes as if they’re my own," he said. "Every detail is custom, from the entry door to the kitchen hood. And I design to sell, so I can continue to do it all over again."
