Working with architect Thomas Phifer and landscape designer Dan Kiley, the owners of this magnificent 115-acre parcel in the heart of New York’s Hudson Valley created a very private yet grand hideaway that’s tucked discreetly into the surrounding landscape.

"When they sited the house, they had this vision to create this beautiful compound for them and their family to grow up on," listing agent George Langa said.

Known as Glenco Mills Farm, the property is a lush mix of rolling hills, farmland, meadows and woodlands, with a dramatic glass house as its centerpiece. It has been featured in Architectural Record and Elle Décor.

The upper level of the house, which is made of glass, steel and wood, is a modernistic glass cube surrounded by sweeping manicured lawns. The centerpiece of this level is a dramatic 30-by-60-foot glass-walled living and dining room with 15-foot ceilings.

If you look carefully at the grass, you may notice glass squares and rectangles set discreetly into the lawn. These are actually skylights for the tucked away lower level.

A staircase down from the upper level "reveals a massive house underneath with a grass roof that you were just walking on," Mr. Langa said. "All of the lawn is actually the roof of the house."

"The house is all about deception, on a positive note," he said. "When you go down below, there is never any moment when you feel like you are underground because everywhere you look outside is all glass."

And all of the glass walls are floor to ceiling. The master bedroom and one of the guest suites sit in corners of the lower level, offering two walls that are floor to ceiling glass, with stunning, totally private views of the surrounding landscape.

The lower level holds all six bedrooms and a vast kitchen.

"The kitchen is spectacular—all stainless steel," Mr. Langa said.

"All of the internal lines of the house are incredibly clean," he added. "The long hallways have inlaid lighting in the walnut floors."

"They have an enormous amount of closets that are all hidden," Mr. Langa said. "It looks like beautiful wooden walls that actually open to walk-in closets."

The house faces west, to take advantage of the views toward the Catskill Mountains, he said. "Many viewpoints on the property have massive views of the Catskills and the whole Hudson Valley."
