A trophy home fit for a king—well, a retail one, at least—this Rose Bay property “is one of the most desirable houses in Sydney,” according to listing agent Michael Pallier. And if the seller gets his asking price of A$45 million, one of the most expensive, too.

The priciest property is just up the road, a A$70 million mansion sold last year by the casino billionaire James Packer, who recently got engaged to Mariah Carey.

Packer’s neighbor, and the seller of 19 Bayview Hill Road, is Brett Blundy, founder of BB Retail Capital, whose investments include the Australian jewelry store chain Diva, Sanity Entertainment Group and lingerie brand Bras N Things.

Blundy has said his favorite investment, however, was a stake in BridgeClimb, an adventure company that takes visitors to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The bridge is visible from most of the home’s floor-to-ceiling windows, its lush gardens and the edge of the spectacular infinity-edge pool.

The Stats

The nearly 18,300-square-foot, three-story house has five bedrooms, five bathrooms and parking for eight cars, including a revolving plate in the garage for drivers not keen on three-point turns.

Guests have their own separate quarters underneath the main house, with an en suite bathroom and a leafy outlook.

Amenities

Described by Pallier as “designed and constructed with every conceivable detail in mind, and to meet the highest standards of modern family living,” the home has indoor and outdoor entertaining areas, with, as you might hope, an impressive barbecue; dual kitchens and a working scullery; a playroom for the kids; a gym and sauna for the adults, plus a plush theater room and an elevator.

Talking Point

Blundy bought the home three years ago for A$32 million from IT entrepreneur Neill Miller, who secured the land and commissioned architects David Walker and Peter Janks to build on it.

Technology is therefore a big feature: a touchscreen control panel operates everything from the air conditioning in each bedroom and bathroom to the music system, sauna, lights and blinds. There are automatic sun shutters and a cover for the swimming pool, plus a system that alerts the owner via iPad when the mailman has made a delivery.

Neighborhood Notes

Surrounded by native gardens and the Hermitage Reserve—part of the Sydney Harbour National Park—the property is totally private and hidden.

The estate is set in the affluent east bay suburb of Rose Bay, home of the Royal Sydney Golf Club, which has hosted 13 Australian Opens. This area is experiencing a “very strong demand from discerning buyers,” says Pallier, particularly those who seek secluded waterfront living.
