Location: Bluffton, South Carolina

Price: $1.35 million

In an area of the eastern United States that’s frequently in the path of major hurricanes, this nearly 10,000-square-foot estate is built to stand tough and tall.

"The fact that it’s made completely out of steel makes it a very unique house on the coast," listing agent Thomas Kersey said. "It has never had any hurricane damage."

Intricate millwork and marble floors also make it stand out, he added.

The entire house, which was built in 1994, has recently been repainted in neutral colors and the kitchen has been updated with new appliances and cabinets, he said.

The owner is a prominent attorney in Atlanta who entertains often, Mr. Kersey said. "A lot of senators and government officials have socialized in the house."

The house is in the gated community of Rose Hill Plantation. It is being sold with a Rolls Royce Phantom for an additional $125,000.

The house has wraparound views of a lagoon that flows into the Colleton River. "It’s fishable," and has beautiful wildlife, "including alligators," Mr. Kersey said.

"The property is zoned for equestrian use, so the next owner could add a paddock and barn," he added.

When you step inside the house, the large entry foyer features marble flooring, an antique crystal chandelier, columns, indirect lighting accents, and a mahogany and leaded glass front door.

The library, or study, features floor-to-ceiling mahogany-paneled walls, a fireplace, intricate crown molding, plantation shutters on the windows and handcrafted bookcases.

The living room has a European-designed fireplace, marble surround, custom bookcases and random-plank tongue-and-groove hardwood floors made of white oak.

The kitchen has appliances by Sub-Zero, Bosch, Viking and Jenn-Air. The breakfast area of the kitchen has French doors that lead to a screened-covered balcony overlooking the backyard.

The 1,050-square-foot master suite features 10-foot ceilings and his-and-hers cedar-lined walk-in closets. The master bath features a deep whirlpool tub framed with Roman columns, his-and-hers vanities, a private commode room, marble floor, a large leaded-glass window, antique chandelier, and a marble walk-in shower with intricate crown moldings.

Outside, "there is more than enough room for a pool, indoor or outdoor," Mr. Kersey said. "The yard has been meticulously landscaped and cared for."
