A hillside retreat on the island of St. Barthélemy came on the market Wednesday, asking €53 million (about US$57 million).

Dubbed Grande Maison des Etoiles, meaning "Great House of Stars" in French, the estate is located in the exclusive gated community "Les Étoiles" in Colombier.

"The estate, on a premier location, offers sensational views of the ocean and stunning sunsets," said Tom Smyth of St. Barth Properties Sotheby's International Realty, which holds the listing.

Built in 2008, the estate fully utilized the natural elements from its surroundings. Volcanic rocks that were excavated at the site were hand-carved to build the various walls on the premises. The three villas cascade down the hillside to maximize the views and privacy of each room, according to Mr. Smyth.

There are nine bedrooms and 10-and-a-half bathrooms spread throughout three villas.

The main villa has five designer-themed bedrooms. For example, the Louis French king master bedroom, located in a separate pavilion, has its own plunge pool on the terrace, while the Hermes and Christian French king bedrooms, connected through a hallway, occupy another pavilion, according to the listing.

In addition, there is a two-bedroom caretaker cottage and a two-bedroom guesthouse, known as "Manuel Canovas Cottage," which has its own living and dining rooms and full kitchen.

Outdoors, there are three swimming pools and multiple covered and open terraces, with barbecues, sitting and dining areas.

The current owners, who want to remain anonymous, are the sole owners/residents of the property. "They take good care of the property and never rent it out," Mr. Smyth said. The family decided to put it on the market after living there for nine years, because the children have grown, according to Mr. Smyth.
