Location: Atlanta, Georgia

Price: $8.75 million

When you arrive at this seven-bedroom, neoclassical home, you can feel the relaxation set in. Just 20 minutes outside the busy center of Atlanta, at the end of a curvaceous drive, sits the tranquil—and impressive—retreat.

"Coming back to the property, I find it tremendously peaceful," said homeowner Raymond Goldsmith, who is founder of International Sports Multimedia, a digital media and content provider. He also noted the privacy and security of the property, which is gated.

After the big reveal of the house itself, the grand entrance provides the next big jaw-dropping moment. With marble floors, a huge chandelier and double staircase, it "lends itself to entertaining," said Mr. Goldsmith, adding that he and his family have had up to 150 people at the house.

The formal dining and living rooms are also great for parties, and a catering kitchen was recently added as part of a $1 million to $1.5 million renovation, according to the homeowner. The main kitchen was also updated, as were several bathrooms, the spa and the pool area.

Running the length of the back of the house, a corridor with French doors provides access to the pool, plus views of the Chattahoochee River.

Stats

The house has seven-bedrooms, eight full-bathrooms and two half-bathrooms. It clocks in at more than 14,000 square feet, and sits on 14 acres.

Amenities

The home has about 1,000 feet of property along the Chattahoochee River, as well as expansive lawns and gardens that are professionally landscaped.

As part of their recent renovation, the Goldsmiths added a cabana next to the pool outside, and expanded the gym on the lower level, adding steam and massage rooms. Other features include a movie theater, wine cellar, hardwood floors throughout, his-and-her walk-in closets and bathrooms and six fireplaces, including one in the master bedroom.

The kitchen has new, state-of-the-art appliances, plus a pantry and breakfast area. Two dining rooms allow for both informal meals and extravagant dinners. There’s also a four-car garage and a caretaker’s cottage on the property.

Design pedigree

"The architecture itself is very dramatic," Mr. Goldsmith said. "But it’s very much a home." The family has lived there since 1999, but he and his wife are looking for a new space now that their children have left the house.

Neighborhood notes

The home is located in a quiet, wooded area, but is just 10 minutes from the highway and about 20 minutes from the center of Atlanta, said broker Amy Bubes. It’s also convenient to Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which is the world’s busiest airport.  Both she and Mr. Goldsmith emphasized the growth the city has seen in the past few decades, with an influx of new companies setting up headquarters in the southern capital. "It’s a very international city," Ms. Bubes said.
